American Uveitis Society · UVEA Task Force

Help us build UVEA

UVEA is a free teaching resource built to help ophthalmology residents learn to recognize and manage uveitis. Good teaching depends on good images, and that's where we need you.

If you have clinical photos or imaging that match anything on the list below, please share them. Every image you contribute will be credited to you and your institution.

How to contribute: review the criteria in Section 1, name your files using the convention below, and upload them through our form.

The upload form requires a Google account. If you don't have one, email your images and captions to uvea@uveitissociety.org. Please start with Tier 1 and Tier 2 images.

Thank you for helping train the next generation of uveitis specialists.

UVEA Clinical Image Request List

On Call Now + On Rotation — Foundations

1. What makes an image usable? UVEA's criteria

RequirementSpecification
FormatJPEG, PNG, or TIFF at original capture resolution. For OCT, FA, ICGA, and B-scan, export from the device rather than screenshotting the review station.
De-identificationNo burned-in name, MRN, date of birth, or accession number anywhere in the frame, including device overlays. Device banners on OCT and FA exports are the most common offender and usually need cropping.
ConsentConsent is generally not required. However, an anterior segment image that includes the entire iris could raise issues, since iris scans are used in some settings to establish identity. This would be rare.
External photographsAny image showing recognizable facial features needs consent specific to that, and should be flagged separately. Periocular and dermatologic images are where this bites.
CaptionOne line from the contributor: what the image shows, laterality, and any relevant context (immune status, time course, post-procedure day). This is the hardest part to reconstruct later, so collect it at submission.
AttributionContributor name and institution as they wish it to appear. Assume every image will be visibly credited.
RightsContributor confirms the image is their own work and has not been assigned exclusively to a publisher. Images previously published in a journal usually cannot be reused without permission from the publisher, not the author.

Submission naming convention

IMG-ID_Contributor_Laterality.ext — for example A07_Gonzales_OD.jpg. The ID is the code from the tables below. This lets the coordinator sort a hundred incoming files without opening any of them.

Note on the ID letters: section prefixes run A–E and then G, H, J–N. F is skipped because it would collide with the module codes F1–F41; I is skipped because it is confusable with the digit 1.

2. Priority tiers

Three tiers based on priority. Please focus on acquiring Tiers 1 and 2 before Tier 3.

TierCoversCount
1The six built On Call Now triage modules, plus the eleven Tier 1 On Rotation modules.43
2On Rotation Tier 2 — Core curriculum, months 4–9.49
3On Rotation Tier 3 — Mostly rare findings that are opportunistic to collect.34
